Life Change Thoughts

I learned some valuable lessons today. One had to do with Nick Vujicic – a man born with no arms or legs. I was watching a short film called, "The Butterfly Circus" when my son Gabriel asked why Nick had no arms or legs. I had to come up with an answer. Without much thought, I gave him the easy answer. I said, “Well, God made him that way.” But it was Gabriel's next question that forced me to dig deeper. His question was the typical four year old question, “Yeah, but why?” Why indeed. But then it struck as I searched for a deeper meaning - finally I managed a, “Well…because he didn’t need arms or legs, Gabe.”

(Pause)

This might be the first time that my son taught me something. And this is what he taught me – he taught me that the things we don’t have, we don’t need. We come into this world equipped with all that we need. And everything that comes out of our shortcomings is what makes our own story remarkable. Right? Isn't it crazy what our kids teach us? It's sort of like discovering that there is a God - and that even though this world is a messed up place, there's someone that knows what they're doing. Which is why, after much research, I can safely conclude that I don't know much, but I do know that I am not God.

In other news, I made my first impulse buy of the Christmas season. I bought U2 tickets. I was online, searching for General Admission tickets and failing miserably, by the way, when I decided to just search for the best tickets available. Since Ticketmaster was being stingy, I decided to give the search function one more try. And suddently there they were - great seats - valuable seats. Seats that were way too expensive for me. But as I watched the seconds ticking away, I realized that I had 30 seconds left to make a decision. So I did. And I had instant buyer's remorse.

Now here's the cool part: there's a lesson in life that I had to learn and it was this: I was looking at the situation all wrong. Life is about Risk with a capital R. The lesson is that lots of things come at us on a timer. And we are oftentimes forced to make a decision that will affect us – but no decision that truly impacts us comes without risk. And that struck me today – we can look at life as a RISK and see the negative: what we can LOSE or we can look life and see the positive and see RISK and see it as an OPPORTUNITY. In a simple act of buying concert tickets I realized that life is not without RISK, but reward does not come without RISK either. Same risk, but the difference is how we look at it, right? Strange. Two lessons in one day. And both were useful. Completely and utterly useful.

Now...what to do about those damn tickets. And as usual, while my life is in this small crisis, I'm happy to entertain you.

Encouraging Words

Just thought that I would pop in on my pocket blog and remind us all of the need to encourage one another. Kindness goes a long way, but nothing pushes us farther than the right words when we need them. Nothing is more inspiring or last longer than that. So don't wait. I know that I could also use a boost every now and then too...and as always, I'm happy to entertain you.

Busy Month Ahead

So even with my work commitments this coming month, I am hell bent on helping Circle Six TV flourish. The hope is that this will be a subscriber influenced program that promotes the maverick spirit of circle six magazine. We're still in the early stages of creating concepts for production, but I am fairly certain that you will like what you see. In any case - keep this on your radar. And as always - we're here to entertain you!

Pocket Blog #2: Vlog/Documentary

I had a really interesting experiment using my cellphone to document my trip. Not just as a blog tool, but as a film tool. I forgot my video camera, my still camera ran out of battery in the middle of using it so I ended up using mostly my cell phone to create/document my experience anyway. I have to say, I'm excited to upload it at some point this weekend. Stay tuned!

Pocket Updates: Week One

Will be spending a lot of time on the road this month and discovered that I could update my blog from my phone. So I'm going to write a few mini updates as they occur to me.

Will be updating my vlog at some point as well. Forgot my video camera but realized that I brought my still camera that also does record video, so I am considering that as an option.

Kill Floor Commentary and More

So after a week of being online, Kill Floor has already received a modest following. We are not as big as Fred, but who is? Anyway, we have begun work on making a commentary available through the annotations function on youtube. So next week you'll be able to read how our project was completed start to finish. So for those of you that watched the series once, stay tuned and read the commentary on the link we'll make available later. It really was an amazing journey. I hope it will give you some insight into the process and I hope that this helps you to make your projects better as well.

In other news, I've gone a little blog crazy and have started to write a bit for both American Virtual Assistants and with Circle Six Magazine (again). So be sure to keep up with that as well. I'm working hard to stay diversified and interesting. Hopefully writing for those two websites will keep me honest and creative enough to eventually come back to more dramatic endeavors in the near future. I'm meeting up with a few of the usual suspects on Tuesday to discuss future projects with the hopes of making something cool for everyone to watch in the very near future. More on that later.

Until next time. Peace out.
